Thorgrimm Hammerstein
hails from one of the many clans who claim heritage to the mighty Thunderhammer main clan. After the calamity began to reel and allow for expansion, the Thunderhammer council of elders decided to send out Throngs as expedition forces to reclaim the old Holds and reestablish the clan in the further reaches of the land. The hammersteins Clan was sent far to the north to reclaim a Hold known as Malakai's Rest, situated in a mountain range known as the Drakes Peaks, where a large deposit of Adamantine, rich and malleable Iron and Steel and pure ores were once harvested and worked. The Hammersteins managed to setup the Hold, and were able to get the forges and mines working in good order and for a time it seemed like this would be one of the major ports of ores in the North territories, but the sounds of industry would spark the end for the Dwarves within.
Thorgrimm was still a Miner in his rank, but was being trained by one of the Clans best Rune-Smiths to take up the mantle, and he showed an aptitude for metallurgy and was set to become a smith in good order, and even began minor Rune inscriptions by himself to hone his skill.
One of the shifts where Thorgrimm and his crew were working the mines, they thought they heard voices coming from behind one of the quarry walls, which to them seemed impossible, and the assumed it to be Miners Madness after the long hours in the mines. To their dismay they were taken back when an explosion knocked Thorgrimm clean off his feet and into the wall nearby. The last thing he recalls was the sound of crude powder and the laughter of vile Urki in the darkness.
Thorgrimm woke to a harrowing sight. His whole crew were slaughtered to the last, some even seen to be shot in the back, their pride and bodies broken, even for the few cadavers who seemed to have fought. He had heard of the tales of old where warbands of Urki would take the teeth, ornaments and anything they viewed as valuable, and these Urki had done this to his kin.
He followed the trail to the market quarters of the Hold, where it seems the last of Hammersteins held until they were overrun. The bodies had been piled high and the smell of burnt flesh clung to even the hard stone walls. Thorgrimm was left with the harrowing sound of Orc laughter and the voices of his fallen Clan while he buried the remains and cadavers.
Harold returned to one of the other Holds expecting to find the same results, but to his dismay and his relief, he found the closest Hold to the south was untouched by the horde that claimed his kin.
After he reported the incident to the elders of the Guilds and Clans, they decided to leave Drakes Peak, and Malakai's Rest now referred to as Fellhammer Hold, in favour of other Holds to reclaim. Thorgrimm, still young for the longer lived races, opted to fight and retake the Hold using his own means. There was no joy or claims that held. He was unable to even push past the smaller fords and foothills of the mountain. Having failed to take arms in their time of need, and further failing to make good on his kins sacrifice Harold took up the Vow of Conquest, with his claim being the Hold his kin lost.
His isolation and semi-self exile has been good in renewing his fever and during his time and attempts to get foothold in the mountain again he has found a few relics and scrolls of his ancestors which has driven the Dwarf into a near feverish rage. One of these scrolls he studied spoke of the ancestors to his mentor, who was the last of a long line of Rune-Smiths who once ruled over a vast kingdom which spanned the northern reaches, and whose rune magic was fabled by the Humans who traded great swaths of land for a chance to meet these Rune-Smiths.
Thorgrimm has taken the Vow of Conquest to reclaim the Hold and make good on his kins deaths, but a deeper feeling has been calling to the Dwarf.
Thorgrimm feels the call of the anvil, and the sound of the Rune calls to him, he wants to earn his redemption, but he also aims to find as much knowledge about the Runic arts, and possibly to rebuild the old realm and bring his Clan back into the light, and to lead armies under his banner to bring about order and peace so that no more will Dawi fear for their lives and existence in the world, even to rival the powers of ones who brought about the Calamity.
Thorgrimm takes up his arms once again, scuttles his camp in the foothills, and heads for the nearest town in search of a party of adventurers to help him begin his climb and begin the first Age of Reckoning.
